Search and Rescue Operation for Air Asia Flight QZ8501
December 27, 2014 my chief called and ask me to be ready the next morning for a news coverage about the missing commercial flight the Air Asia flight QZ8501. I have to be in the military airbase of the Indonesian airforce in Halim Perdanakusuma early in the morning with our photographer to join the search mission using the military aircraft. Journalists from tv, newspaper, news agencies joined the search mission the next morning.

We flew around Java Sea in between Java, Borneo and Sumatera island for few hours and we were given the chance to take turns to enter the cockpit and take photos and footage of the search mission.

All along the flight, journalists were busy taking photos, making stand ups, writing scripts etc for their news package.

After that day the news is getting big and office decided to send crews to Pangkalan Bun and Surabaya to cover the news in those places since the flight was departed from Surabaya and the closest airbase for the search and rescue is the military airbase in Pangkalan Bun. I went to Pangkalan Bun while my chief and the reporter went to Surabaya. I stayed in Pangkalan Bun until January 6th and here are some behind the lens photos that I took on site, mostly photograph of the journalists who worked very hard to make the news.

While in Pangkalan Bun I also joined the search and rescue mission with the Indonesian Search and Rescue team using their search and rescue ship.

And after the search and rescue mission with the ship I get back to the military airbase and stayed there until the 6th of January.
